Letter to Jodi Mackay State Member for Newcastle

Dear Jodi Mackay,
My Name is David Hayman I have been a resident of Stockton for 44 years and have been a keen fisherman all of my life.After i was made redundant by the Government Changes in FreightCorp in 1996,I was in need of a new start in life and being a keen fisherman I invested in our familys future and started a charter boat business ( Tailermade Fishing Adventures in Sockton which we have builtup over the years and have rgular clients from all parts of NSW and Inerstate.We have also purchased South West Rocks Fishing Charters(2005).We have approx 10 people employed in these businesses.We have a$1,000,000-00 investment in these businesses.If the implementation of further Marine Parks(Scantuary No Fish Zones as referred to in NPA document "The Torn Blue Fringe" is agreed to and accepted by government these businesses and othe tourism businesses that the economy of our areas rely on will no longer exist which will see furthrt unemployment that can be avoided.
I am on 2KY's Hytide program each weekend providing fishing reports for our area and in the studio from time to time. Lately the feed back we seem to be getting from the anglers that ring in,is what creditable scientific evidence has been provided by this minority group to substatianate their claims.The main problem in our area for seabed damage is the 40 plus coal ships at anchor off the Newcastle Coast Line which denude the sea bed with there massive anchor chains every time there is a change in wind, current or tide.These chains aquate to the same as when bulldozers clear forests and scrubland for development but this is on large scale with most ships having half a nautical mile on the sea bed at any given time.

Most fish species are migratory therefore they either go to sea or our estuary system to spawn therfore what do scanctuary zones do except cost the government major amounts of moneyto setup and maintain.

Fishermen/Women in the majority are conservationists of our fishery with the DPI regulation on bag limits nad fish sizes being the regulatory guide lines.

Every person in our country whether be in what state or territory has the right to fish as we are a democracy we all pay taxes and rates that our governments are supposed to put to the best use for all the community. To have a minority such as these greenstelling the government that i f they want there preferences for the next election that they have to agree to the implementation of these sanctuary zones.This is not the way I was brought up as an Australian this infact blackmail and is not in the best interests of all in our state. I wish to protest against the proposal by the NPA " Th Torn Blue Fringe" to implement more marine parks in NSW.

I WILL NOT SUPPORT OR VOTE FOR A GOVERNMENT THAT TRADES OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO FISH IN NSW WATERS FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF A MARINE PARK WHICH CANNOT BE SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN THAT IT WILL WORK

Our state is need of more Hospitals,Schools and Transport facilities well before Government appeases another minority group by granting a Marine Park.

Our present fishing fees are well at work in research and development of our fisheries.

What the government does need to do is get off there backsides and increase the Fisheries personnel on the water which creates employment that helps manage our fishery whether it be commercial or recrational.
At present the DPI can't fill positions as they don't have a strategy that will encourage young people to become fisheries officers.

We have a TAFE system that bring students into different apprenticeship trades whilst still completing there HSC why can't this be introduced into the TAFE System .

I am a Fisherman and a Charter Business owner in NSW that has had enough of a government that can't perform.If you were a local Government (Shire or Council) the state government would have sacked you and installed an administrator.I only wish our constitution would allow it.

The anglers that I speak to have also had enough and intend to exercise there right to vote in 2011 to show how serious they view your judgement on trading away ther right to fish.
Remember there are over 1 million fishermen and women who have had enough, that's a lot of votes to loose
